One of history's most respected composers, Ludwig van Beethoven and his music have influenced the entire world of classical music, his intellectual intensity remaining unmatched. The Beethoven Festival is a celebration of the man, his music and his genius. Over three nights the Australian Youth Orchestra performs three symphonies and three concertos from the Beethoven collection under the baton of American composer John Nelson, with pianist Herbert Schuch as soloist.

The Australian Youth Orchestras is a collection of 79 of Australia's finest young musicians. With a strong reputation for innovation and training, the orchestra is comprised of musicians less than 25 years of age from across Australian who excel in their instrument.

Conductor John Nelson has led distinguished orchestras all over the world and is currently the musical director of the Ensemble de Paris. Pianist Herbert Shcuch is an exceptional musician who has won both the London international piano competition and the international Beethoven competition in Vienna.

Each night of the festival, Timothy Sexton holds a pre performance talk detailing the evolution of Beethoven's compositions and the brilliance behind the man who began to lose his hearing in his twenties and continued to compose, perform and conduct after he was completely deaf.
