The atmosphere is fresh, clean and simple and the food is designed to match. The exotic flavours of Thailand are made accessible, making this a popular lunch spot.

Editorial Review

Pattaya Thai is not your standard Thai takeaway with photocopied paper menus, uncomfortable plastic furniture and boxes of tissues acting as a cheap alternative to serviettes. Rather, Pattaya Thai is a tranquil Thai eatery in North Adelaide, it's menu bursting with authentic Thai spice and attractive prices. The interior is extraordinarily pretty with dark wood chairs complemented by a chocolate ceiling and accordion foldback windows with wooden frames, resulting in a contemporary decor that never feels sparse. Small vases on each table sprout fresh wild flowers and the service is elegant and restrained.
The flavours herald from the north eastern end of Thailand, with Cambodian influences present in dishes like fish amok - a bowl of steamed cabbage topped with aromatic curry sauce, steamed fish, fresh lime leaves, basil leaves and rich coconut milk. The chicken basil stir-fry is light and flavourful, with a frisson of spice delivered by the homemade chilli paste, and the prawn choo-chee takes large prawns and scatters them through a creamy red curry sauce with some lime and basil leaves for colour. The wine list is as long as an elephant's trunk and features some lovely South Australian selections.

Redchilli: This was an average meal. The fresh spring rolls lacked fresh herbs and the pandan chicken was dry. The mains were slightly better (beef salad and Phud Thai noodles) but still average. Saving grace was the staff who were very friendly and efficient. (18 February 2008)
