Editorial Review
The Outdoor Room is the latest foray into the lifestyle genre, tracking ubiquitous personality Jamie Durie as he bids to bring the world to Australian backyards. The Outdoor Room's point of difference is that Durie travels overseas for his inspiration.
In this instalment, Durie ventures to England for ideas to renovate the abandoned backyard of a Melbourne couple who have recently welcomed the premature birth of twins. While in England, Durie is given a tour of Sir Elton John's stunning private garden, and upon returning to Australian shores viewers are guided through making an English fish pie.
It's easy to imagine this program being impressively pitched but for all its effort it falls horribly short of even being remotely interesting, following a strict formula: include airfare and accommodation prices with all the aforementioned segments, spray it with a glaze of historical facts, throw in celebrity horticulturist Jody Rigby and you have yourself a commercialised half-hour of drivel.
The Outdoor Room airs on the Seven Network on Sunday, September 7, at 6:30pm.
