Television Gets Political
Editorial ReviewEditorial Review
US presidential nominee John McCain recently announced that his vice-presidential candidate is Sarah Palin... but does she look familiar?
Several bloggers have suggested that Palin, the governor of Alaska, bears a striking resemblance to actresses on popular TV shows.
Burnlab was one of the first sites to notice Palin's small-screen doppelganers, pointing out that the potential vice-president looks very much like Mary McDonnell - the actress who plays President Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica.
It had previously been pointed out that McCain looks uncannily similar to McDonnell's Galactica co-star Michael Hogan, who plays Colonel Saul Tigh on the sci-fi series.
TV Squad quickly spotted several more TV women who look like Palin:
- Tina Fey, the Emmy Award-nominated actress who stars as Liz Lemon on the sitcom 30 Rock
- Megan Mullally, who played arch millionairess Karen Walker on Will & Grace
- Geena Davis, who played the first female President of the United States Mackenzie Allen on the short-lived drama series Commander in Chief
Commenters on the site also pointed out that Palin looks like Peggy Hill, the animated housewife from King of the Hill.
Could Palin's resemblance to TV characters win her votes from couch potatoes and propel her to the White House?
